A celebration of pigs and pigskin will be held April 15-16 in Greenville in honor of East Carolina University's spring football scrimmage game at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

 The two-day event includes a pig-cooking contest, barbecue plate sale and a free movie screening in the stadium.

  The inter-squad Purple-Gold Spring Game, which begins at 2 p.m. April 16, will be the public's first opportunity to see first-year head coach Scottie Montgomery's team on the field. Admission is free.

 A Pirate Equipment Sale will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 16. Pirate gear from years past will be available for purchase including jerseys, athletic equipment and bags. Cash and credit will be accepted.

 Here is a rundown of the other events:

Friday, April 15
 5:30-7 p.m.: PeeDee, the costumed Pirate mascot, celebrates his birthday on the football field. The party will include face painting and free cupcakes for the first 100 kids.
 7 p.m.: The pig-cooking contest begins with the Parade of Pigs. A delivery truck will drop off pigs to the cooking teams under the Dowdy-Ficklen stands. The truck will be escorted by the ECU cheerleaders, PeeDee and the Marching Pirates.
 7:30 p.m.: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (PG-13) will be shown free on Bagwell Field in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Viewers may sit on the field on blankets or in the stands; chairs are not permitted. Concessions will be available for purchase; outside food and beverages are not allowed.

Saturday, April 16

 8 a.m.: Pirate Alumni 5K Road Race and 1-mile Fun Run raises money for ECU Scholarships.
 9 a.m.: Parking lots open. Parking is free and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Tailgating is encouraged.
 11 a.m.: BBQ Awards underneath the Boneyard area of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
 11:30 a.m.: Barbecue plates will be sold for $8. Beverages and other concessions also will be available from a tent; cash and credit will be accepted. A drive-through location, which accepts cash only, will be set up along Ficklen Drive.
 11:30 a.m.-noon: The 2016 ECU Pirates Football Team will sign autographs at a Team Meet and Greet. Football posters and schedule cards will be available.
